South Tabor Neighborhood Association
October 15, 2015
Officer’s Report: For the most part, the South Tabor Neighborhood has been quiet, lately. A neighbor shared a concern about drug activity at a house on 79th and Franklin Ongoing problems with a house on SE 66th were also mentioned.
Committee Reports: The administrative aide to State Representative Alissa Keny-Guyer gave an update on the 2015 legislative session, and talked about the State Innovation Exchange- a conference of progressive legislators from across the country. One of the big accomplishments of this legislative session was the passage of the Toxic-Free Kids Act. This act requires companies to disclose dangerous chemicals found in products used by children, and to phase out certain toxins.
Legislation providing health care coverage for undocumented children did not pass. This bill would have given the Oregon Health Authority to set up programs to provide health services, as money became available.
A lot of work was done on the Working Family Childcare tax credit. Credits were made refundable so that families could receive a larger refund. The tax credit begins to taper off as the child gets older.
Mayor Hales has declared a housing state of emergency. Multnomah County has pledged 10 million dollars, and the city has pledged $20 million. The state of Oregon will be investing $40 million to build new affordable housing on a state level and $2.5 million to preserve existing affordable housing. $20 million is pledged for those dealing with mental health issues or addiction. Senator Keny-Guyer is the Chair of the Housing and Human Services committee. Those who are interested in housing issues can contact her, or Commissioner Dan Saltzman, who runs the Housing Bureau. Further information about the 2015 legislative session can be found at www.oregonlegislature.gov/keny-guyer.
A Land Use Committee meeting will be held next week.
Sandra Hay-Magdeleno could not be present to give the Treasurer’s Report. The ending balance in the account is $7,859.876.
We are in need of more board members. If you are interested in serving, we would like to hear from you.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.
