Quest for new Franklin High School identity produces 6 nickname candidates
The committee charged with finding a new identity for Franklin High School has come up with a list of six possible nicknames for the school’s community to consider. The 19-member Franklin Mascot Identification Committee – which includes students, staff, alumni, family members and community members — identified these possible nicknames:
- Ambassadors
- Chargers
- Falcons
- Firs
- Lightning
- Thunderbolts
Franklin is undergoing a name change because its current mascot name, Quakers, has been found to violate district policy that forbids names with a religious affiliation.
The committee is conducting a survey of Franklin stakeholders to gauge their preference among the six nicknames, with a write-in option available. The committee has two meetings scheduled in April to come up with a final recommendation to send to Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero for his review. The superintendent will forward the proposed name to the Board of Education in May, with the final Board vote coming in June.
